MBA Chair’s participation in events

Recently, Marcel Cassar, in his capacity as the MBA’s Chair, participated in two prestigious local events. The first was held on the 19th October at a panel discussion titled ‘Navigating through the fog of sanctions’ which formed part of the PwC Financial Crime Compliance Conference 2022 – Navigating the pillars of financial crime in an evolving landscape. Other panellists were Mirko Rapa, partner at PwC Malta and Andrea Amatuzio, partner at PwC Italy and an anti-financial crimes leader. The discussion was moderated by Fabio Axisa and centred around the impact of sanctions on financial institutions and non financial entities. Amongst the topics discussed, Mr. Cassar shared valuable insight into the impacts that sanctions had during the current year and the difficulties encountered by banks in the field.

The second event was the hybrid conference organised by the MFSA’s Financial Supervisors Academy (FSA) which was held on the 1st November and titled Financial Services of Tomorrow : Regulatory Perspective. Here Mr Cassar was one of the guest speakers at the panel discussion held during the ‘Sectoral Workshop on the future of Banking and Payments – Industry Perspective.’ Other panellists comprised Nirav Patel, CEO Andaria Financial Services, Kenneth Farrugia, CEO BOV, while the discussion was moderated by Dr Conrad Portanier, Ganado Advocates.
